COURSE OUTLINE

MULTIMEDIA 12

 

MAIN LEARNING OUTCOME:

Students will develop the fundamental knowledge and skills to use software technology and technological tools to modify information, solve problems and create visual presentations.

SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY:

Students will demonstrate positive contributions to the classroom and school community.
Students will solve problems in effective ways.

EVALUATION:

The entire course consists of a single comprehensive outcome. There is no final examination in this course. Within this outcome there are three categories of assessment: assignments, tests and problem solving. A student’s final grade will be determined by their overall achievement on these. Not all assessments are weighted equally.

Assignments: Students will earn a grade for the assignment portion of the course based on the student’s overall performance on the assignments. If an individual assignment has not been completed to a satisfactory level, the student will have one opportunity to complete an alternate assignment. The student’s mark for that assignment will be the higher of the two marks. All students, regardless of their achievement on the first assignment, have the opportunity to do a second assignment for a higher mark. There will be an oral presentation aspect to student submissions.

Tests: Students will earn a grade for the test portion of the course based on the student’s overall performance on tests. Not all tests may be weighted equally. If a student’s overall performance on the tests is not satisfactory, they may choose to readdress that portion of the course by taking a supplementary test. The mark for the test portion of the course will be comprised of the higher of their test grades completed throughout the year. Students may be required to complete remedial work prior to taking a supplementary test. If this is not done, the student may not be eligible to take the supplementary test.

Problem Solving: Students will keep an online logbook of peer support interactions. This logbook will be available to the teacher for assessment. Students will also be observed during classes on their abilities to problem solve.

PLEASE NOTE! Except PowerPoint, all indicated software is open source, and freely available for students to download, use, share etc., completely free of charge. Students are advised to use the software at home, as part of their practice. PowerPoint is usually found as part of a standard Microsoft Windows installation. A recommended alternative whish is free, and compatible with PowerPoint, is the Open Office (http://www.openoffice.org/) suite.

Module 1: Creating and Manipulating Images

 

  • apply techniques and procedures needed to manipulate images (including text) in a range of media, including digital and electronic media (1.1)
  • demonstrate an understanding of the cultural, historical, and emotional impact of other people’s images by examining their form and content (1.2)
  • demonstrate an awareness of the procedures involved in the production of images in a range of digital and electronic media (1.3)
  • apply principles of art and design to create digital and electronic images (1.4)
  • construct digital and electronic images which communicate ideas and concepts (1.5)

 


 

Module 2: Creating and Manipulating Timed Images

 

  • apply techniques and procedures needed to create time-based images (2.1)
  • demonstrate an understanding of the cultural, historical, and emotional impact of other people’s time-based images by examining their form and content (2.2)
  • demonstrate an awareness of the procedures involved in the production of time-based images in a range of digital and electronic media (2.3)
  • apply principles of art and design to create time-based images (2.4)
  • constructed time-based images which communicate ideas and concepts (2.5)

 


 

Module 3: Sound

 

  • create and manipulate sound products from a range of sources, including music, narration, and effects (3.1)
  • demonstrate an understanding of the cultural, historical, and emotional impact of other people’s sound products by examining their form and content; and relationship or potential relationship to other multimedia elements (3.2)
  • demonstrate an awareness of the procedures involved in the production and application of sound products in a range of media (3.4)
  • apply principles of art and design to create sound products (3.5)
  • construct and manipulate sound products which communicate ideas and concepts (3.6)

 


 

Module 4: Collaborative Project and Personal Portfolio

 

  • apply skills, principles, techniques, and processes of art and design to communicate ideas and concepts to an identified audience for a specified purpose (4.1)
  • demonstrate an understanding of the cultural, historical, and emotional impact of other people’s multimedia products by examining their form and content, audience and purpose (4.2)
  • collaboratively create a customized multimedia authored project using software program(s) and external sources (4.3)
  • independently select, organize and refine a range of multimedia products that illustrate learning throughout the course to create a multimedia-authored personal portfolio (4.4)
  • explore various educational and career paths in multimedia-related fields (4.5)

 


 

LATE WORK SUBMISSIONS:

If a students’ work is not handed in the day it is due, students may be given an extension at the discretion of the teacher. If after this extension date the student does not submit their work, the assignment will not be accepted. Students then have the option of completing a second assignment for which they will receive the earned grade. There will be no extension for the second assignment.

All work that is submitted to the teacher must be fully completed before the work will be accepted for evaluation.

ABSENCE:

Students absent without excuse when a test is due to be written or when an assignment on extension is due, will receive an “Incomplete”. This will be incorporated into the students overall mark, and students are responsible for making up missed work, outside of class time.


STUDENT RESPONSIBILITY:

- To maintain a tidy and clean environment. (no food or drink)
- To return equipment to its proper place.
- To treat equipment and people in the classroom with respect.
- To use class time effectively.
